On Tuesday 16 January, a week out from the Official Community Open Day, VisAbility team members and clients were given the inside scoop on the new Perth Stadium Station. The Public Transport Authority organized a familiarization tour of the station for those individuals living with disability, so come the opening of the Stadium, all guests would feel comfortable using the new station. The tour saw clients and other interested community members ride a dedicated train service that left Perth Station just after 10am. The tour included accessing the station by train and by foot and reviewing the accessibility features of the station including wayfinding signage, tactile ground surface indicators throughout, seating, stairs, elevators and toilet facilities across the six platforms and the two concourse entrances.
VisAbility’s Access Consultant David, and Orientation and Mobility Coordinator Jodie attended the tour. David remarked,
“This was a great opportunity to review the accessibility features of Perth’s newest train station before the community opening.”
We’d like to thank the PTA for making the tour possible, our clients and staff found it highly valuable. We look forward to events in the new Optus Stadium when it opens on Sunday 21 January. View the rest of the photos on our Facebook page here: For more info: bit.ly/2D7YaFM.
