VisAbility Community Hubs

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) has been described as the most significant social reform since Medicare. The scheme’s foundation of providing user choice and control has changed the landscape for disability services providers such as VisAbility.

As a result, we’ve reshaped our business model to meet the new market-style disability service system. It means we can provide a better, more individualised and more streamlined service to our clients.

This means changing our service delivery to a community-based model. Many of our therapy staff are now seeing clients in community-based settings, such as their home, workplace or school.

VisAbility hubs

As part of this new approach, we’ve begun to establish hubs for our therapists to work from. Hubs are now in place in the Perth metro area in Joondalup, Midland and Mandurah. Over the next 12 months, we’ll establish additional hubs in or around Cockburn and Gosnells.

In regional areas we have existing hubs and staff located in Bunbury, Albany, Geraldton, and Karratha. In coming months, as the NDIS rolls out, we’ll establish additional service hubs in Broome and Kalgoorlie.

The new model gives therapy teams the opportunity to form connections with a person’s local sporting and recreation groups. This further supports inclusion in local communities.

Our therapy staff will now be allocated clients according to the hub they are working from. It will reduce the amount of time spent travelling and maximise the amount of time they spend with clients.

For some clients this may mean that their allocated therapy team will change. We will try and minimise the impact of this, for example, if your current therapist is in the middle of a therapy program, where possible, we’ll wait until the conclusion of the program before making any changes.
