Your health and well-being is our top priority. We are always looking to provide therapy in the best ways possible, for the best outcomes possible.
What are the benefits of online therapy for me?
With the current Coronavirus situation the benefits of online therapy are more important than ever!

- Increased flexibility with scheduling appointments
- Reduced travel and travel costs for clients
- Reduced risks to yourself and your family in leaving your home
- For parents, increased family engagement during sessions, less disruption to the family routine, and increased confidence and empowerment following the sessions.
Is this something new to VisAbility?
No! VisAbility was awarded the prestigious 2018 Hesta Organisational Award for Innovation, for providing orientation and mobility services through the Remote Orientation and Mobility Program (ROAM). Our Children and Youth Services team has been using video-conferencing for regional clients, and we often complete assistive technology support over Zoom in people’s homes and workplaces.
Am I too old or too young to receive services by video?
VisAbility has provided services of all ages, from a 4 month old baby through to a 92-year-old. Having a trusted person who can support you during sessions can be helpful.
Which services can I receive online?
- Occupational Therapy
- Speech Pathology
- Orientation and Mobility
- Psychology and Social Work.
- Assistive Technology support
- Exercise Physiology
- Group Therapy.
How can I access support for equipment?
We will work with other providers, through video-conferencing, to find creative ways to provide support with equipment that’s related to any physical challenges.
Therapy services can be delivered via phone or email, or online via your smart phone, Skype, Zoom or Facetime. You don’t need expensive equipment or technology, all you need is your smart phone, tablet or computer.
We are flexible, and will discuss your personal preferences with you.
What about security surrounding these sessions?
We’ve implemented a number of features to protect your privacy during online therapy sessions. These include locked meetings, waiting room features and unique password protection for platforms which don’t have end-to-end encryption. You can read our Online Therapy Guidelines for advice on how to get the most out of these sessions.
What if I’m not sure it’s right for me?
Give us a call. Speak to your Key Contact or Therapist and they will talk you through the process and how other clients are using online therapy services.
What if I decide to cancel my online therapy session?
If you do decide to cancel, please give us 10 days notice, or you will be charged 100% of the full fee.
How are fees calculated?
There will be a temporary change in the price of some services during this period. VisAbility’s prices will increase by 10% for therapy/exercise physiology/assistive technology training and community participation groups. This will come into effect from Monday 20th April 2020 and is in line with recommendations from the National Disability Insurance Agency.
More information on the NDIA’s response during the coronavirus outbreak can be found online.
You are required to supply your own technology during online therapy sessions – either a smart phone, computer or tablet, with camera, microphone and good internet connection. The NDIS has recently announced that participants can access funding for technology to support therapy and exercise services. Speak to our team if this is a barrier for you to access our online therapy services.
Video sessions are charged similarly to face to face sessions, i.e. from the beginning of the scheduled session time through to the end. The only difference is there’s no travel costs.
Just like face to face appointments, our staff need to complete progress notes, and these are kept to 15 minutes. Where your therapist dedicates time to prepare for your session, this will be charged. Charges such as tailored session preparation are discussed with you.
What if the technology doesn’t work?
You will not be charged for technology issues that occur at our end. If these occur during the session (at your end) – our staff will charge for the standard appointment time. If there’s any uncertainty with where the issues are, you will not be charged.
Please speak openly with your therapist if you are unsure about charges for video sessions or any aspect of your service.
Note the above information relates to NDIS and fee for service only.
