We are proud to announce that VisAbility is a finalist in the Leading Age Services Australia (link opens in new window) LASA 2020 Excellence in Age Services Awards Western Australia. Nominated in the Organisation category, we received a commendation for providing an outstanding level of care and service delivery to older clients.
Industry super fund HESTA sponsor these awards. They place a spotlight on all our staff who work tirelessly for older Australians.
At VisAbility, we have a passion and drive to improve the day-to-day lives of older people through therapy services we provide and community activities. We know we make a difference to people with low sight or who are blind. We’re proud of our contribution within the community as CEO Elizabeth Barnes explains.
This underpins our commitment to our elderly clients. Over the last twelve months, three and a half thousand people with a disability have received our services. Two-thirds are 65-years-old and over.

Acknowledging our success
We naturally wanted to celebrate with our clients because they are at the heart of what we do, so we had a party in the Community Activity Centre. Local company, The Missing Ingredient gave us a cake. The icing topper was provided by My Delicious Cakes (link opens in new window) in Bibra Lake.
An award nominations booklet was distributed to all the organisations shortlisted. It featured an article on VisAbility, featuring Therapy Assistant Kane Perris, and one of our clients John Griffiths. John, who’s in his sixties, has been enjoying exercise physiology sessions at our Exercise Clinic since losing his sight after suffering a stroke. The article also highlighted our long history in WA.
We’ve been providing services to people with vision impairment for more than a hundred years, introducing Guide Dogs and Orientation and Mobility Officers to Australia.
This is only the second year that we have been a registered member of LASA. It’s the national peak body representing providers of age services. To receive an award in such a short space of time is a great achievement.
We offer a range of therapy services to both adults and seniors. Why not see what’s available and contact us today?
