As the year winds down, there’s no better way to celebrate the season than by coming together for one of our most cherished traditions… the VisAbility Family Picnic! For over a decade, this event has been a highlight on our calendar, offering a relaxed, inclusive day where clients, families, friends, and staff can connect, unwind, and share in the joy of community.
This year’s picnic, held on Saturday 29 November in Victoria Park, was no exception. Under sunny skies, the park came alive with laughter, music, and
the spirit of togetherness.
🎶 Entertainment and Atmosphere
Guests were treated to a delicious BBQ and sausage sizzle while enjoying the sounds of our very own band, Grand Delusions, who filled the air with Christmas carols and favourite tunes. The lively atmosphere continued with interactive performances from the Dara Thai Dancing School, who wowed the audience and encouraged everyone to join in the fun.
🎨 Creativity and Connection
Face painting brought smiles to children (and the young at heart), while the Community Activity Centre (CAC) showcased incredible arts and crafts – mosaics, pottery, woodwork, and more. These beautiful creations were available for purchase, with proceeds going directly back into CAC group activities, supporting our clients’ creativity and independence.
🏐 Sports and Play
Thanks to Blind Sports WA, guests had the chance to try their hand at goalball and navigate an exciting obstacle course, proving that sport is for everyone. Meanwhile, Educated By Nature offered a muddy, sensory play experience that quickly became a favourite. Children explored mud, clay, and gumnuts in a safe, supportive environment – a tactile adventure that encouraged creativity, exploration, and connection with nature.
🌟 A Celebration of Community
Large-scale lawn games, shared meals, and the simple joy of being together made this year’s picnic a true celebration of what makes VisAbility so special. It was a day filled with fun, laughter, and meaningful moments that reminded us of the strength of our community and the importance of connection.
