Meet like-minded people with low and no vision, in our Community Activity Centre. Make new friends, explore new interests and learn new skills as you take part in a variety of interesting daily activities.

Express yourself and get involved with your local community through creative and sensory activities in our comprehensive leisure program.

The activities are modified to make them bigger, bolder and brighter. You will be supported to use specialised equipment, assistive technology, processes and your other senses to compensate for your vision impairment.

Choose from a regular schedule of group activities including:

Arts and crafts

A fun, social atmosphere in which participants develop or continue to engage their creative skills producing knitted items, paper arts and other ornamental goods.

Art studio: Painting

Come along and join us in learning how to develop and maintain your painting skills in various mediums, from the initial design development stages to the final varnish and display.

Talking Book Club

Book-lovers unite (no homework required!) Each week, Amy will read a short story or book excerpt, out loud to the group. Discussion is very welcome and so are your requests! Just drop in for short stories read aloud and share your thoughts over a cuppa. Talking Book Club is now available online as well! You can join from home via Teams or by phone.

Cooking and culture

Delve into authentic Asian cultures and cuisines! A social group where you get hands-on practice making delicious savoury and sweet dishes (and sometimes drinks), for lunch or to take home!

Digital Art *New*

Use software such as Procreate (opens in new window) or IbisPaint (opens in new window) to create masterpieces you can share or print. You will need a tablet or iPad, which you can use to zoom in and out to create detail in your work. Anything is possible in the digital realm!

Gardening

Planting and maintaining the vegetable patch in our raised garden beds, you will be able to take home herbs and vegetables when ready, or use them in the Cooking & Culture group! Also have a go at propagating and potting plants.

Practice Italian

In this group, we explore the language, arts and history of the ancient culture of Italian. In a friendly and fun setting you will practice Italian language and customs with Tiziana. Suitable if you have some basic familiarity with Italian already.

Japanese language and culture

Join Atsuko on Tuesday mornings to be transported to the world of kimonos, onsen, tori gates, matcha tea ceremonies and more!

Mahjong

Try your hand at mahjong, a strategic tile-based game of Chinese origin. With our extra-large tiles, adaptive equipment and expert instructor, we welcome clients of all vision and skill levels. Please be aware that games are strictly social and chatting is encouraged.

Men’s interest

Discussion of current affairs, points of interest, jokes, some quizzes and occasionally we host guest speakers or have a barbecue. Weekly excursions to local museums, galleries, cafes and more.

Mighty Minds

In this group minds matter! Join us for an afternoon of team-building with fun and challenging puzzles, boardgames and brainteasers that expand lateral thinking, logic and reasoning skills to support healthy brains. Popular games include the daily cross-word, scattergories and our famous book of riddles.

Mosaics

Participants work on individual or group projects and even projects for sale! Popular past creations include mosaic house numbers, table tops, lazy Susans, coat hangers and artwork for display to name just a few.

Music therapy and appreciation

Sitting down, appreciating and discussing various types of music, composers, groups, singers etc. Some broadcasting of musical videos and regular visits from music therapists and musical guests for live performances.

Pottery

One of the most tactile forms of art, pottery is ideal for participants who are blind or vision impaired. Popular project choices include earthenware crockery, animal figurines and busts. Bring your own ideas, or come up with them as you go along! All creations are glazed and fired in our onsite kiln for a professional finish to take home.

Pottery wheel

In this fun, hands on course, clients will shape and form wet clay on a pottery wheel to create one of a kind pieces such as ceramic mugs, bowls and plates.

Woodwork

Join us in the woodshed and learn how to use hand tools and power tools to build your own custom items such as bread boards, rolling pins and tables. Choose your own project and make something beautiful from scratch! A very practical and addictive activity.

Zumgo dance fitness

A dynamic and exciting fitness activity that uses a fusion of Latin-American dance moves to fun upbeat international music. You will be sure to feel like you’re having a dance party rather than working out, whilst grooving to the beats of salsa, flamenco, and merengue music.
