2025 Christmas Appeal Launched – Glenn and Walter

We would like to introduce you to Glenn, and his Guide Dog Walter. Over the last 20 years, Glenn has used many of the services and programs offered by Guide Dogs WA and VisAbility – and built himself a busy, fulfilling life.

Glenn is living proof of the power of your support and kindness. And he wants to make sure every other West Australian living with low or no vision, disability, illness or other life-challenges has the chance to feel just as supported as he does.

We know you understand how life-changing Guide Dogs are for people like Glenn. His Guide Dog Walter is his second dog, after Obie. Even though they have been together for just a few months, he can’t imagine life without him.

“My first Guide Dog was Obie, and she was fantastic. But when she had to retire, I waited quite a long time to find the right Guide Dog for me. It was tough relying on the cane. Now I have Walter, he has given me back my freedom.”

Glenn recently started a new job, and Walter effortlessly guides him through a complex journey that includes two buses and a train, straight to the front door of the office.

“There’s no way I’d attempt that without Walter. I found I was doing less with the white cane, and I was a lot less confident. Being back with a Guide Dog has been a relief.”

Glenn’s life is full of greater independence, freedom and hope, because of people like you.

Whenever Glenn needed help over the years, he reached out to Guide Dogs WA and VisAbility for guidance and comfort.
