Big changes are coming to My Aged Care funding

Changes to My Aged Care funding 25/26

We want to keep you informed about some important changes coming to aged care services.

From 1 November 2025, a new Aged Care Act will take effect, and a new program called Support at Home will commence. This means:

  • Stronger rights and protections for you as a consumer.
  • Better access to services through a simpler assessment process.
  • More accountability from providers to provide high quality and safe services.

What you need to know right now

VisAbility receives direct funding through My Aged Care to deliver services under the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP). We also partner with Home Care Package providers to deliver vision services to those with higher support needs.

Changes for CHSP funded clients

If you’re receiving VisAbility’s support through CHSP, there will be some small changes happening from 1 July 2025. Here’s what you need to know:

  • You don’t need to do anything right now. CHSP services will continue until 30 June 2027.
  • New Service Names: The types of services you receive may have new names and clearer descriptions.
  • Client Contributions: CHSP remains a subsidised program. Clients will continue to be expected to contribute towards the cost of services. VisAbility will be updating our resources to make this information easier to find and understand.
  • Eventually, CHSP will transition to become part of the new program called Support at Home—but not before July 2027.

Changes for Home Care Package funded clients

Partnership arrangements between VisAbility and Home Care Package providers will continue under the new Support at Home Program, however, there may be changes to how you access and pay for VisAbility services.

We will continue to work closely with Home Care Package providers during their transition to the new Support at Home program and best prepare for the new requirements effective 1 November 2025.
