Lifting the Load

in Latest News, Stories of Independence

International day of People with Disability is a day that aims to increase understanding, acceptance and public awareness of people living with a disability. It is an opportunity to internationally celebrate their achievements and contributions.

This year Phil Menzie received the Local Inspiration Award during the Day of People with Disability celebrations in Glenorchy from the Glenorchy City Council.

Phil recently won in the Australian Master’s Championships in Cairns earlier this year in powerlifting, where he competed against able bodied people. He has also represented Australia in BSA Blind World Powerlifting Championships in China back in 2013.

Phil’s athletic pursuits help to create awareness to challenge the public’s perception of what people with a disability can and can’t do.

In 2017 Phil began participating in fun runs to raise money for Guide Dogs Tasmania. Since then Phil and his Guide Dog Yoda have participated in the Point to Pinnacle, the B&E Run the Bridge, Harcourts Signature Round the River and RACT City to Casino, and is planning to run in The Cadbury fun run in January

We just want to extend our congratulations to Phil.
